About The Ceasefire
I find it impossible to make much sense out of things right now. The ceasefire is apparently based on the immediate opening of the Straits of Hormuz, but from what I can tell at the moment, they are not all that “open” at this juncture about 10 hours later. All sorts of stories circulating which is why the best we can do is follow the live updates. We do not know, exactly, who we are negotiating with and Iran is a notably unreliable negotiating partner. Israel supports the cessation of strikes; therefore, I presume this to be a move in the right direction – but that is about all I can do. I did learn one very salient fact from a source yesterday that has not been widely reported.
My source is retired military that has war-gamed the invasion of Iran many times. Apparently due to the terrain, the country is uninvadable. You just cannot move enough men and material fast enough through the terrain. Therefore, it would seem the U.S./Israeli alliance is pursuing this war in the best way possible, even if it does make the endgame difficult. The conventional wisdom that you cannot control a territory without ground troops remains true, so we have to end this conflict without total control of the territory.
This is new territory. No one, not even the president, knows how this is going to go. The media’s obsession with pinning the president down is, under these circumstances, outrageous.
So, it comes down to trust. Do you trust the president to conduct this war and these negotiations well and for the benefit of the nation? In his last appearance on the show, Ambassador Oren noted that Trump may be one of the more seminal figures in history because of this war. The stakes here are extraordinary. So I am going to bottom line this.
I would not leave any woman I care about in a room alone with Donald Trump – so there are limits to my trust. But that said, when it comes to his legacy, place in history and the good of the nation – I trust him completely. In this circumstance, Trump’s enormous ego is working in our favor. His ego wants him up there with Reagan, Roosevelt, Lincoln and Washington. He is therefore going to do everything he can to make that happen. So, I absolutely trust him in this instance. He coined the euphemism “win, win” a long time ago now and this is just that.
Finally, pray for the people of Iran. The time is at hand for them to rise up. It could be as simple as their accepting the powers that we are currently negotiating with. But seeing as we have determined that we cannot establish the new government there, they have to . And that is not easy. They need our prayers.
