Florida woman arrested for punching trooper in the face during ICE operation, AG says: ‘Not today, Jennifer’

A Florida woman was arrested on numerous charges after she allegedly punched a state trooper during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation Tuesday.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said 40-year-old Jennifer Cruz of Jacksonville objected to the ICE operation on Beach Boulevard but ended up getting arrested herself.
‘The idea that you’re going to assault one of our troopers is unacceptable, and you are going to face consequences as a result of that.’
“This is Jennifer Cruz of Jacksonville. Jennifer disagrees with immigration enforcement and decided to commit a few felonies by getting out of her car and punching a Trooper in the face,” Uthmeier said in a post on social media.
“But unlike Minnesota, we don’t put up with this nonsense. Not today, Jennifer,” he added.
Uthmeier included an image of Cruz’s arrest from a police camera.
The owner of the Mi Pueblo Mexican grocery store spoke to WJXT-TV about the arrest that unfolded in front of his business.
“What I witnessed was a traffic stop by the state trooper,” Juan Alvarez said. “ICE agents showed up with the state trooper. They detained a driver, the person was driving, and so yeah, they had an operation going on, and after that, they had detained another person, but it seems they got into an altercation with that person. It turned violent, and that led to the presence of a lot of more, you know, police, federal enforcement showing up.”
He was also able to record officers taking down Cruz from the window of his shop.
Jail records indicate Cruz was charged with a slew of crimes, including resisting an officer with violence, battery on law enforcement, and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis commented on the arrest during a media briefing.
“This is not Minneapolis. This is not going to end well for you in Florida,” he said. “You have a right to go out there and criticize government policy. You can go out there and protest within respected zones, but the idea that you’re going to assault one of our troopers is unacceptable, and you are going to face consequences as a result of that.”

Man flings Molotov cocktails at federal building while yelling ‘anti-ICE’ comments, feds say

A 54-year-old man was arrested for allegedly tossing Molotov cocktail-style explosives at officers standing guard outside of a federal building in downtown Los Angeles on Monday morning.
Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that Jose Jovel is expected to be charged with arson and explosive-related offenses by the U.S. attorney’s office.
‘[He] stated that he wanted to blow up the building and “spray down” all the officers while making more derogatory comments.’
Jovel was arrested at about 8 a.m. after the attack at the federal building at 300 N. Los Angeles St.
“The suspect was taken into custody and stated that he wanted to blow up the building and ‘spray down’ all the officers while making more derogatory comments about ICE officers,” read a U.S. Department of Homeland Security statement.
The alleged firebombs were not lit before the suspect threw them.
A hazmat team evaluated a liquid at the site and determined it to be safe. Los Angeles firefighters also responded to the scene.
The man is under investigation for an arson at about 4 a.m. at his residence on North Westmoreland Avenue.
Jovel is a U.S. citizen. DHS said that investigators found four knives and a Leatherman tool in Jovel’s possession.
No one was injured in the incident, according to Laura Eimiller, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI is also investigating.

In June, the same federal building was the site of a large protest by hundreds of people who opposed mass deportation operations of the Trump administration.
The building was vandalized with spray paint at the time, and police reported that some of the protesters had turned violent and tossed large pieces of concrete.

ICE officer shoots at driver who tried to run over agent during vehicle stop in California, DHS says

A driver tried to run over an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who was involved in a vehicle stop in California, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The Ontario Police Department said it provided aid to the agents after receiving a call Thursday morning about a shooting.
One of the officers fired ‘defensive shots’ at the vehicle out of fear for his life.
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said the agents performed the traffic stop at about 6:30 a.m. on Vineyard Avenue when another car pulled up in front of them, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The officers ordered the other driver to leave, McLaughlin said, and he seemed about to comply when “the car stopped and attempted to run officers over by reversing directly at them without stopping.”
One of the officers fired “defensive shots” at the vehicle out of fear for his life, according to McLaughlin.
“The subject fled the scene and abandoned his vehicle,” she added.
Ontario police were not involved in the shooting and offered only traffic control and security while DHS investigated the incident.
Video from KTTV showed scenes recorded from a news helicopter.

The FBI is also investigating the incident, according to Ontario police.
Ontario was also recently the scene of a horrific accident that took the lives of at least three people when the driver of a commercial truck plowed into stopped traffic on the 10 freeway. The driver was identified as a 21-year-old illegal alien from India named Jashanpreet Singh.
