Minneapolis Mayor Frey outlines deal reached with Trump on Operation Metro Surge: ‘The president agreed’

President Donald Trump and Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey apparently agreed on de-escalating the situation that led to the lethal shooting of an anti-ICE protester.
The president said on social media that he had spoken via phone with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), before adding that he had a positive phone call with Frey as well.
‘Violent criminals should be held accountable based on the crimes they commit, not based on where they are from.’
“I just had a very good telephone conversation with Mayor Jacob Frey, of Minneapolis,” Trump said.
“Lots of progress is being made!” he added. “[Border czar] Tom Homan will be meeting with him tomorrow in order to continue the discussion.”
Frey posted about the call on his account soon after.
“I spoke with President Trump today and appreciated the conversation. I expressed how much Minneapolis has benefited from our immigrant communities and was clear that my main ask is that Operation Metro Surge needs to end. The president agreed the present situation can’t continue,” the mayor said.
“Some federal agents will begin leaving the area tomorrow, and I will continue pushing for the rest involved in this operation to go,” he added.
Frey could be referring to reports that top Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino and some other agents agreed to leave Minneapolis.
The mayor went on to say that the city would continue to cooperate with federal investigations but not with “unconstitutional arrests of our neighbors” or to help enforce federal immigration law.
“Violent criminals should be held accountable based on the crimes they commit, not based on where they are from,” he added.
“I will continue working with all levels of government to keep our communities safe, keep crime down, and put Minneapolis residents first,” he continued.
Anti-ICE protester Alex Pretti was shot and killed during a scuffle with federal immigration agents when he tried to interfere with an operation on Saturday. Pretti was carrying a firearm at the time, but one agent grabbed it away from him before shots rang out.
Democrats responded to the incident by demanding that all of the federal troops be pulled out of the state.
“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Walz replied. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

Justice Dept. slaps Gov. Tim Walz, AG Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Frey with subpoenas: Report

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, state Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have all received subpoenas from the Department of Justice, reports claim.
Fox News reported on the subpoenas Tuesday and said they related to an investigation into obstruction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
‘This Justice Department investigation … does not seek justice. It is a partisan distraction.’
Walz’s office and Frey’s office confirmed to KMSP-TV that they received the subpoenas. Walz also posted a statement on social media to President Donald Trump.
“Mr. President, Minnesota invites you to see our values in action. Come see how communities from all walks of life are working together, and how the spirit of this state refuses to be defined by division or fear,” he wrote in part.
“But let me be absolutely clear: The State of Minnesota will not be drawn into political theater,” Walz added. “This Justice Department investigation, sparked by calls for accountability in the face of violence, chaos, and the killing of Renee Good, does not seek justice. It is a partisan distraction.”
The subpoenas asked for records and communications from the politicians related to the surge of federal officers in Minnesota. The Associated Press reported that other subpoenas were also sent to St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, who previously admitted she is an “illegal” immigrant, and officials in Ramsey County as well as Hennepin County.
“When the federal government weaponizes its power to try to intimidate local leaders for doing their jobs, every American should be concerned,” read a statement from Frey to KMSP.
“We shouldn’t have to live in a country where people fear that federal law enforcement will be used to play politics or crack down on local voices they disagree with,” he added. “In Minneapolis, we won’t be afraid. We know the difference between right and wrong, and, as Mayor, I’ll continue doing the job I was elected to do: keeping our community safe and standing up for our values.”

Walz went on to call for an investigation into the death of anti-ICE activist Renee Good instead.
“A mother is dead, and the people responsible have yet to be held accountable,” he wrote.
“That’s where the energy of the federal government should be directed: toward restoring trust, accountability, and real law and order, not political retaliation,” Walz added. “Minnesota will not be intimidated into silence and neither will I.”

‘ICE, get the f**k out of Minneapolis!’ Democrat mayor calls ICE’s self-defense claim for deadly shooting ‘bulls**t’

The far-left mayor of Minneapolis forcefully demanded that federal immigration agents leave his city after a fatal shooting of a woman who obstructed an operation and drove her vehicle into an agent.
Mayor Jacob Frey of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party immediately called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to leave in the wake of the shooting and reiterated his demand in a media briefing.
‘They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly: That is bulls**t!’
“I have a message for ICE. To ICE, get the f**k out of Minneapolis!” said Frey.
“We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite. People are being hurt. Families are being ripped apart. Long-term Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy are being terrorized, and now somebody is dead,” he added.
“That’s on you. And it’s also on you to leave,” Frey said. “It’s on you to make sure that further damage, further loss of life and injury is not done.”
He identified the deceased protester as a 37-year-old woman, and the DHS said she was a U.S. citizen. Frey put the blame for the shooting on ICE, but Homeland Security Assistant Sec. Tricia McLaughlin contradicted that version of events.
“ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them — an act of domestic terrorism,” she wrote in a statement.
Video on social media caught the incident and shows the moment she hit the gas and the shots rang out.
“He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers,” McLaughlin added. “The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.”
Frey addressed the statement from the DHS and called that version “bulls**t.”
“They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly: That is bulls**t!” said Frey. “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.”
