Sundance VIPs take 10-minute protest break in between screenings

What one report called “arguably the shortest of protests in recent memory” rocked the Sundance Film Festival for about 10 minutes on Sunday evening, as around 100 people gathered in Park City to voice their opposition to the ICE raids in Minnesota.
The diminutive demonstration echoed statements made by big-name festival attendees like Edward Norton and Olivia Wilde
‘Turn on your phone light for a minute or two.’
‘Melt’ down
Actress Natasha Lyonne posted a promotional flyer for the event, called “Sundancers Melt Ice,” which read, “Join us tonight to remember Alex Pretti and Renee Good” and “quietly register our collective protest.”
Pretti was recently shot and killed by federal agents during a violent scrum, while Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent as she hit him with her car.
“Turn on your phone light for a minute or two,” the flyer added. “Silent, respectful, together.”
Chants encounter
The 10-minute event included protesters chanting “Love melts Ice! Love melts Ice!” according to Deadline, which noted that actor Elijah Wood (“Lord of the Rings”) turned out to offer his support.
“The folks who have been unlawfully gunned down in Minnesota — it’s awful,” Wood said.
“Here we are at this film festival that is about bringing people together; it’s about telling stories from all over the world. We’re not divided here; we’re coming together,” he continued.

Sign decline
The film festival is no stranger to progressive protests; in 2024, demonstrators flooded the streets of the small town to protest on behalf of Palestine, holding signs like “stop the genocide” and “end the occupation.”
“Ceasefire, now!” was chanted by the group, followed by “Free Palestine!”
In 2017, Sundance saw what is recognized as likely the largest protest to take place in Park City, when between 5,000 and 7,000 showed up on Main Street for a “Women’s March on Main,” the day after President Trump was inaugurated for his first term.
Parents brag about ‘rehearsing’ their kids for ICE raids — even though they’re citizens

Liberals have gathered online to describe how they are preparing their young children for alleged raids on their homes by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In many cases, those making the statements reveal that because they are white, they are likely not in danger of being approached by law enforcement, but they feel the need to discuss the disaster plans with their kids anyway.
‘I’m currently rehearsing with my 3 1/2 year old what to do, and where to hide.’
The bizarre stories have been posted on Reddit’s “Twin Cities” page, which refers to Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
First reported by independent journalist Andy Ngo, one thread in particular drew some rather questionable responses from other readers.
“I’m currently rehearsing with my 3 1/2 year old what to do, and where to hide, if someone we don’t know comes to our door,” the thread read, while clarifying, “I am a white, blonde, blue-eyed, U.S. citizen.”
This encouraged others to share similar stories, like one reader who qualified that while he is a “U.S. Air Force veteran and white male,” he still believes that this fact “doesn’t matter” because of the area he lives in.
“[ICE agents are] in every store and on nearly all corners, going door to door and breaking every constitutional right. I’ll stand my ground. But I also realize the freedom/privilege I still have that others around me do not,” he explained.

A self-described “white woman” who is married to a Hispanic U.S. citizen said she is still taking precautions to “keep us all safe.”
She added that it was “so f**king sad” that she has to have “this conversation” — about potential ICE raids — with her 3-year-old child.
Similarly a reader named Steve described his family as “pale Midwest white.”
Still Steve claimed he had to speak with his 6-year-old son to explain “why people in our neighborhood and city are feeling scared.”
In response, the child allegedly replied, “But there are a lot of friends in my class with different colored skin. Will they be OK? Can I help them?”
Steve’s sentiment that his family is in danger was checked by a fellow “white” however. User “AStrawberryGhost” wrote that if Steve does not live with any noncitizens then, “This isn’t about you.”
“I’m also in very little danger and [I’m] also distressed anyway, so I do get it and I’m not trying to make you feel ashamed,” the user began. “I’m saying that you actually have more power than you imagine right now and you might feel better if you used it!” the Reddit user decried.

These strange posts exist alongside other astonishing ideas pushed on the same page.
For example, one user cited a post about a man who claimed he was detained by ICE and asked if he would give up any names of protest organizers in exchange for legal protections. This prompted the writer to plainly state that those who are arrested should not reveal any information that could damage their cause, under any circumstances.
“Do not share the names of organizers,” “Do not share the names of ANY family, friends, or neighbors,” and “Do not share any information. You can plead the 5th,” the user wrote.
“ICE are lying to find more people to arrest and deport,” they added.
At least one Reddit user contributed a post about Anne Frank, directly comparing the enforcement of immigration law to the Holocaust during World War II.
“83 years ago today in Germany … and today in the twin cities,” the post read, alongside a photo of Frank.
The post evoked many replies about how conservatives are unlikely to know the history of Nazi Germany.

‘Shameful revisionist history’: America250 faces scrutiny after posting ‘progressive propaganda’

As America celebrates its 250th year, the very organization planning the celebration has now been accused of spreading “progressive propaganda.”
On Tuesday, America250 made a post praising former President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his novel list of “freedoms.”
‘Celebrating the socialist campaign positions of FDR as fundamental to American history was not what I expected when I hit the follow button.’
In a graphic, the post says, “On this day in 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt outlined four universal freedoms people the world over ought to enjoy.”
“Spoken during a moment of uncertainty, the Four Freedoms helped define what America stood for — and continues to stand for,” the post reads.
While the list starts with freedoms generally familiar to all Americans, specifically freedom of speech and freedom of worship, FDR also added a couple of novelties: “freedom from want” and “freedom from fear.”

The Federalist’s Brianna Lyman called out what she called America250’s “progressive propaganda”: “‘Freedom from Want’ is not a constitutional freedom nor a natural right. It was invented by FDR and his socialist cohort to justify welfare expansion and redefine rights as government grants — flying directly in the face of what America *actually* stands for.”
“Making up a right like ‘Freedom from Want’ — and then pretending like this is a core American value, is shameful revisionist history from America250,” Lyman added.
At the end of the series of graphics, the America250 post says, “President Roosevelt spoke them. Norman Rockwell painted them. We will strive to live them.”
The Tennessee Star’s Tom Pappert commented, “Celebrating the socialist campaign positions of FDR as fundamental to American history was not what I expected when I hit the follow button.”
According to the America250 website, the “nonpartisan” U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission was established by Congress in 2016 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
While it is not clear who runs the social media accounts, notable figures on the commission include several members of Trump’s Cabinet, Democrat and Republican congressmen and senators, and 16 private citizens.
The chair of America250, Rosie Rios, was appointed by President Joe Biden and previously served in both the Obama and Biden administrations in some capacity, according to her biography.
Former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and their spouses are listed as “honorary national co-chairs” of America250.
America250 did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Blaze News.

Nancy Pelosi announces retirement after nearly 4 decades in Congress

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election after nearly four decades serving in Congress.
Pelosi was first elected to the House in 1987 to represent California and eventually became the first female speaker of the House. Pelosi served as speaker from 2007 to 2011 under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and again from 2019 to 2023 under Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
A successor has not been named.
“For decades, I’ve cherished the privilege of representing our magnificent city in the United States Congress,” Pelosi said in a video posted on X.
“That is why I want you, my fellow San Franciscans, to be the first to know,” Pelosi said. “I will not be seeking re-election to Congress.”
