Vance schools yappy student on problems with immigration: ‘There’s too many people who want to come’
Vice President JD Vance taught college students an important lesson on the problems associated with mass immigration at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi on Wednesday.
After delivering his prepared remarks with Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk — emphasizing the importance of avoiding pointless foreign entanglements, securing America’s borders, and altogether prioritizing citizens — Vance respectfully gave a few students much-needed reality checks.
One of the questioners prefaced by noting that his girlfriend was studying in the country on a student visa, then asked Vance about his views on legal immigration.
‘My job as vice president is not to look out for the interests of the whole world.’
“Thanks in part to the Biden border invasion but also thanks in part to a lot of bad immigration policy, right now, we have let in too many immigrants into the United States of America,” Vance responded.
The Pew Research Center recently indicated that as of January 2025, there were 53.3 million immigrants living in the U.S. — the largest number ever recorded. Over 15% of all U.S. residents and 19% of the U.S. labor force were immigrants.
The vice president suggested that “the evidence is pretty clear” that a great many of the over 1 million migrants who legally enter the U.S. every year “are actually undercutting the wages of American workers,” and suggested that such wage suppression is what prompted President Donald Trump and his administration to encourage H-1B reform.
Vance indicated further that while the intended function of the H-1B visa is to attract and retain top talent from around the world, “what it’s actually used to do is hire an accountant at a 50% discount to an American citizen. I don’t think that we should be hiring accountants from foreign countries when we’ve got accountants right here in the United States that would love to work for a good wage.”

“We have got to get our overall numbers way, way down,” the vice president said, adding that the nation needs time to “build a sense of common identity” before admitting more people.
Vance’s remarks evidently vexed a young female student of apparent Indian origin in the crowd who used her time at the microphone to complain both about the vice president’s stated desire for his Hindu wife to one day join him in following Christ as well as his desire to taper the number of immigrants legally admitted into the United States.
“When you talk about too many immigrant [sic] here, what is — when did you guys decide that number? Why did you sell us a dream? You made us spend our youth, our wealth in this country and gave us a dream,” the woman said.
“How can you as a vice president stand there and say that ‘we have too many of them now, and we are going to take them out’ to people who are here, rightfully so?” she asked.
After clarifying that he was proposing greatly reducing the number of foreigner admissions in the future while honoring past promises to previous entrants, Vance stressed between interruptions from the woman that immigration policy should be adapted to the circumstances of the day.
“We cannot have an immigration policy where what was good for the country 50 or 60 years ago binds the country inevitably for the future,” the vice president said. “There’s too many people who want to come to the United States of America, and my job as vice president is not to look out for the interests of the whole world. It’s to look out for the people of the United States.”
While the questioner did not appear all too pleased with Vance’s America-first answer, the crowd burst into applause.
Before the conclusion of the event, the vice president told the crowd, “Despair is a sin. Do not give in to the sin of despair. Let’s keep fighting to save the United States of America.”

Red, white, and boo: Almost two-thirds of Americans now believe in ghosts
“I ain’t afraid of no ghost.”
Easy enough to say 40 years ago, when audiences delighted to the spectral pest control antics of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Aykroyd. You can’t fear what isn’t real, after all.
The show pioneered a tactic known as ‘provocation.’ This is when an investigator attempts to goad a spirit into manifesting by insulting it.
Things have changed. Since then, the proportion of Americans who believe in ghosts has surged 400%. Surveys indicate that nearly two-thirds of the population now hold supernatural beliefs, and 20% have reported seeing a ghost.
Entrepreneurial spirits
With roughly 50 million Americans purportedly having encountered a haunting, the business of ghost hunting has evolved into a profitable enterprise. It would appear that the invisible hand of the market really does exist.
As proof that even the ethereal cannot escape the iron law of supply and demand, paranormal tourism is booming. Millions of Americans now spend over $300 million on haunted attractions each year. You can satiate your gruesome desires by visiting Iowa’s Villisca Axe Murder House, where eight people, including six children, were murdered in 1912. For $430, anyone brave enough to take a whack at it can try to spend the night.
Ghost-hunting shows are scaring up unprecedented interest as well. YouTube, for example, has hundreds of paranormal-themed channels. One of the biggest is “Sam and Colby.” With an average of 10 million views per video, the kids are among the most popular ghost hunters online. The two film themselves while visiting haunted locales across the United States. Freed from the limitations of conventional television, the videos are lengthy and typically unedited, offering a more immersive experience for their audience of 15 million subscribers.
There are compilation channels for those who don’t want to endure the deferred gratification of 90 minutes of shaky handheld videos and constant cries of, “What was that?”
Then there are channels like “Mind Junkie” and “Nuke’s Top 5,” which brazenly monetize our endless appetite for not-so-carefully-vetted supernatural slop. One wonders if these shrewd content creators are also behind the “debunking videos” they attract. Nice business model, if so.
Tales from the clip
“Paranormal Caught on Camera,” now in its ninth season on Discovery+ and the Travel Channel, can best be described as a reality show. From poltergeist activity to mysterious shadows roaming the woods, a panel of experts weighs in on supposed paranormal footage from around the world. Imagine “Ghostbusters” meets “America’s Funniest Home Videos” — with the approximate scientific rigor of both.
Psychologists say a prior belief in ghosts makes a person more inclined to perceive unexplained sounds and events as paranormal. The show’s presenters are clearly familiar with the research. They frequently use the term “energy” (which appears to function as a noun, verb, and adjective) and attribute every sound or camera jiggle to the spirit realm.
Ghost roast
“Ghost Adventures” is one of the longest-running and best-known of these types of shows. While the experts on “Paranormal Caught on Camera” are content to remain armchair investigators, aging goth heartthrob Zak Bagans and his crew actually go out into the field. Since 2008, they have traveled around the United States looking for paranormal phenomena. The format is simple: They arrive at an alleged haunted location, turn off the lights, hit record, and explore the building. What we get is a well-curated, finely edited spectacle.
The show pioneered a tactic known as “provocation.” This is when an investigator attempts to goad a spirit into manifesting by insulting it. While this demonstrates a fortitude worthy of Ray Parker Jr. himself, it has never once worked over 300 episodes. The only scary thing that appears to be happening is a group of middle-aged men screaming in the dark about nothing in particular.
The truckload of pseudoscientific equipment these guys bring to the task separates them from your average amateur. A truckload of pseudoscientific instruments is used to add an element of objectivity. Particularly prized is the EMF meter, used to detect the electromagnetic fields ghosts apparently emit. This essential prop emits clicks and pings reminiscent of the motion trackers used to detect xenomorphs in the movie “Aliens.” Unsurprisingly, there is no James Cameron-level tension here. Ninety-nine times out of 100, they’ve probably just found the fuse box.

Phantom itch
Slick, polished, and carefully choreographed. It’s all very Hollywood. It comes as no surprise that the massive increase in belief in ghosts over the last 50 years coincides with the golden era of horror. Art imitates life. Many of these shows use the same strategies as your typical Hollywood special effects department.
So why are we watching these shows? “Ghost Adventures,” now in its 28th season, has perfected the art of selling us fear. These shows give us what we want. We love to be afraid. A horror movie grants us the chance to live vicariously through the characters on the screen. A way to experience and navigate terror from the comfort of our couch.
Then there’s another, more poignant, explanation. We believe in ghosts for the same reason that we believe in God. In the end, both ghost hunters and Christians are motivated by the same persistent yearning that has dogged us since the dawn of humanity: There’s got to be something more than this.

Kelsey Grammer endorses Republican in dead-heat NJ governor race
Actor Kelsey Grammer, best known for his roles in “Frasier” and “Cheers,” weighed in on the competitive gubernatorial race in New Jersey, announcing his support for one of the candidates.
‘There’s a lot of famous folks who grew up in Jersey, but some of them seem content to let you guys go on livin’ on a prayer.’
Grammer, who grew up in New Jersey, voiced a campaign video last week for Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli, a former New Jersey state representative, who is going head-to-head with Mikie Sherrill (D), a current U.S. representative.
“When I was a boy, folks would stand up for what’s right and not wait for someone else to fix our problems,” Grammer stated in the video. “This last decade or so, it seems we’ve lost our way.”
The actor cited increased taxes, a surge in crime, and politicians making promises they fail to keep.
“Jack Ciattarelli will lead with strength, decency, and respect for all who love New Jersey and call it home,” Grammer concluded. “We waited long enough. It’s time.”
Ciattarelli, who has received several endorsements from local Democratic leaders, shared the campaign video on social media.

“It’s time to bring back honest leadership, lower taxes, safer communities, and pride in our state,” Ciattarelli wrote. “It’s time for real change.”
Ciattarelli also shared a video on Monday of Grammer endorsing him. In the video, Grammer referenced song titles by those from or with ties to New Jersey, including Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, and Taylor Swift.
“Hi, Kelsey Grammer, here,” he said. “You already know I’m from New Jersey. That’s why I’m talking to you right now. There’s a lot of famous folks who grew up in Jersey, but some of them seem content to let you guys go on livin’ on a prayer.”

“Others have just forgotten that you were born in the USA too,” Grammer continued. “But once Jack wins, and I think he’s got a good chance of winning, it’s gonna make it a lot easier to just shake it off.”
Grammer has endorsed conservative candidates in previous elections. Last year, he announced his support for Curtis Bashaw, a New Jersey Republican Senate candidate who campaigned against Andy Kim (D) to replace Sen. Bob Menendez (D). Kim ultimately won the election by 9.7 points.
Grammer has also been vocal about his support of President Donald Trump.

Mom boards school bus, threatens student, curses out bus driver — then repeats scene at HS, cops say. It ends badly for her.
A 48-year-old mother boarded a Florida school bus Monday morning and threatened a student and cursed out the bus driver, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
But the mother — identified by authorities as Latanya Rowe — allegedly was just getting started.
‘These police ain’t gonna be able to protect you!’
The bus was supposed to be taking students to Davenport High School, but Rowe apparently had some business to take care of first.
The sheriff’s office said Rowe began cursing at and threatening a student on the bus about a Friday incident between the student and Rowe’s son and daughter. The student victim recorded video of Rowe’s profanities and threats, officials said.
“Yeah, record me!” she yelled to start things off. “I know where you live!”
She also cursed out the bus driver, accusing him of not “handling the situation” between her kids and the student, authorities said.
The bus driver told Rowe to get off the bus, but she refused, officials said, adding that when he told her he was contacting law enforcement, she left.
The sheriff’s office said Rowe’s actions caused the bus to be delayed by about 50 minutes.
Before the clip ended, Rowe was heard hollering — apparently at the student — that “these police ain’t gonna be able to protect you!”

The sheriff’s office said that when deputies went to Rowe’s home, she told them through her Ring camera that she was at the high school.
Indeed, the two school resource deputies went to the high school’s front office where they found Rowe cursing, yelling, and causing a disturbance, officials said. When the deputies attempted to take Rowe into custody, she resisted, the sheriff’s office said.
What’s more, Rowe’s daughter was standing nearby and was told multiple times to move back, officials said, adding that she repeatedly refused and told deputies that she wanted to go to jail too. The sheriff’s office said she was taken into custody for violation of the “Halo law” after warnings and resisting arrest.
Deputies investigating the original dispute between the three students on the bus — Rowe’s son and daughter and the student victim — learned through several witnesses that Rowe’s son had been bullying the student victim for a week and calling the victim racial slurs, officials said.
When all three students got off the bus Friday afternoon, the victim attempted to talk to Rowe’s son and daughter, but they both punched the victim, officials said, adding that the victim fought back until another student separated them.
“The irony of this situation is that this woman’s two children were found to be the aggressors in a fight that took place on Friday, yet she was screaming at the victim and accusing the victim of hurting her kids,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in the aftermath. “The victim’s parents declined to press charges and preferred that the school handle that internally, but we are moving forward with charging this mother for her criminal conduct. You cannot go onto a school bus or onto school property and cause a disturbance — schools are meant to be safe places where children learn.”
Rowe was charged with disrupting a school function, trespassing on school grounds, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, officials said, adding that she was released after posting $1,750 bond.
