LATAKIA – Three people were killed on Sunday when protests in Syria”s Alawite heartland of Latakia spiralled into gunfire and other violence, according to the province”s media office.
Italy arrests nine over alleged Hamas funding through charities
ROME – Italian prosecutors said on Saturday they had arrested nine people on suspicion of financing Hamas through charities based in Italy, in an operation coordinated by anti-mafia and anti-terrorism units. The suspects are accused of “belonging to and having financed” the Palestinian group – classified as a terrorist group by Israel, its top ally the U.S. and the European Union – prosecutors in the northern Italian city of Genoa said in a statement.
P1.224-M worth of illegal firecrackers seized ahead of New Year revelry – PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confiscated over P1.224 million in illegal firecrackers in its enforcement operations across the country as of Sunday, or three days before the New Year”s Eve revelry. In a statement, the PNP said it has seized 79,953 pieces of illegal firecrackers valued at P1,224,909 as of 7 a.m. of December 28.
