When The Greatest Evil Returns
I have been sitting here for about an hour now avoiding writing this post. Church is cancelled this morning because of the massive winter storm, so here I sit with this news and only prayer to comfort me. It wasn’t supposed to happen again, but it has.

Not With A Bang, But A Whimper
Many of us predict California’s demise. But what does that look like? How will we know it when it happens? The host declared California a “zombie” state this past week – maybe it is dead already and just does not know it? I thought this post about it being more of a slow erosion than a catastrophic event was quite insightful. It is experiencing, or perhaps has experienced but does not know it yet -death by a thousand cuts.

Timing Matters
Just a bit more than a week ago, it feels much longer than that so I was pleased when I checked the date, I compared the current Iranian regime with some of the great mass killers of history. I ended that post saying, “But make no mistake, this is no longer a matter of foreign policy – this is a matter of morality, of standing for what is right in the world.” Not long after I wrote that President Trump said the killing had stopped and Iran has not been much discussed since. It is my prayer that this silence and lack of action is strategic and not simply pragmatic.

There Is Only One Jesus
So, on Tuesday, I looked at how both Left and Right claim to be acting in a Christian fashion and then called for a bit of humility. In that post I linked to an article on Don Lemon’s excruciating podcast interview in which he claimed a lot of Christianity is white supremist. But I missed his claim, in that same interview, that he was imitating Christ tearing up the Temple courtyard. I made specific reference to that Biblical incident in that post, but I had no idea Lemon was claiming it as justification for his actions. With this claim Lemon is saying, essentially, “I understand Jesus better than the people in that church do.” That’s a pretty astonishing claim, I just wish the Left’s claims to the only true Christian understanding ended there.

Conserve The Planet, Destroy The Language?
“The Science,” which it must be remembered is very different than actual science, can produce some absolutely maddening things. “The Science” is a perversion of actual science designed to speak unequivocally (science is almost always equivocal) in order to drive some agenda in some direction. Science is about precision, hence mathematics is its primary language. “The Science,” being political in nature, uses English as its primary language and often tortures the language in order to make a point.

Christian Polarity
Christians have fought Christians throughout history. Rome v Constantinople…Catholic v Protestant…Presbyterians v The Church of England…German Lutheran provinces v German Catholic provinces – the list is interminable. More often than not these were political fights wrapped in church clothing. People don’t usually go to war over theology unless one theology comes with a bunch of territory that the other theology wants. The American experiment has been a bold effort to bring such things to an end by separating church and government, not only bringing peace where little was known, but preserving religious expression that would otherwise have been crushed as it lost some battle. It is supposed to be a win-win. But alas….

Well, It’s Official, Tim Walz is (Insert your own profane insult here)
It’s MLK day. I cannot think of a more moving bit of oratory than his “I Have A Dream” speech. Some of Churchill in the war comes up to that level, but nothing exceeds it that I have ever encountered. His dream called all of us to be people of good character (“not judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character,”) but alas this nation has fallen well, well short of the mark Dr. King set for us. Making a mockery Dr. King’s assassination and this day grievously sad. Prime example – Tim Walz.

When Church Misses The Point
So it seems that in Minnesota a church is organizing a general strike against I.C.E. That article contains a list of participating businesses that is, to my mind, pathetically short. For such a strike to be truly effective this list would have to be so long as to defy publication. But snark aside, my soul aches for this church – I think they have missed the point.

Environmental Policy As Fad
They are finding lots of new oil and gas in Texas, while California is shuttering its few remaining refineries. That might go a long way to explain why a gallon at the pump in Texas is about half the price of that same gallon in California, taxes notwithstanding. It also defines the Red State/Blue State divide. Reason is returning to our environmental policy, at least in reasonable places.

Democrats Constitutional and Historical Ignorance (Or Is It Convenience?)
Tim Walz has declared war on the federal government. Clearly the man has no understanding of the history of the Civil War or of just how the Constitution works. This seems to be common in Blue States.
