Here’s every time Senate Democrats voted to keep the government shut down

Nearly a month into the shutdown, Senate Democrats have refused to reopen the government over a dozen times. Even still, Democrats are pointing the finger at Republicans.
Although Republicans hold a majority in both chambers of Congress, there’s been a hang-up in the Senate. Instead of a simple majority, the Senate actually needs 60 votes in order to pass the continuing resolution. Republicans do hold a 53-seat majority in the Senate, but they need the help of at least seven Democrats to reopen the government.
Senate Democrats have effectively voted to continue withholding paychecks from federal workers and critical benefits from the American people over a dozen times.
This is easier said than done. When the Senate voted on the GOP’s clean continuing resolution on September 30, only three Democrats crossed the aisle in an attempt to keep the government open: Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, and Angus King of Maine.
Both Cortez Masto and King origianally voted against the bill on September 19 but flipped their votes ahead of the funding deadline. Notably, Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has consistently voted with Democrats.
As a result, the government shut down and has remained closed ever since midnight of October 1.

The Republicans’ funding bill is clean and entirely non-ideological, while the Democrats’ hyper-partisan alternative boasts a hefty $1.5 trillion price tag. Democrats have also insisted on renegotiating the Obamacare subsidies despite the fact that they won’t expire until the end of the year.
Now 28 days into the shutdown, Senate Democrats have effectively voted to continue withholding paychecks from federal workers and critical benefits from the American people over a dozen times. Here is a breakdown of every time Democrats voted to keep the government shut down.

LGBTQ champion Zohran Mamdani faces backlash over photo with ‘anti-homosexuality’ Ugandan lawmaker

With only a week left before the election in the contentious New York City mayoral race, socialist Zohran Mamdani is facing criticism for a photo with a Ugandan lawmaker who supported legislation restricting LGBTQ behavior.
The criticism stems from his July visit to Uganda, where he was born. During his visit, he met with Rebecca Kadaga, a well-known Ugandan lawmaker who served as speaker of the Parliament of Uganda from 2011 to 2021. She has been the first deputy prime minister since 2021, according to the New York Post.
Mamdani appeared at a ‘Gays for Zohran’ event, posing with two drag queens.
Mamdani and Kadaga appeared in a photo together during his return to Uganda.
“Delighted to meet with Zohran Mamdhani [sic] incoming Mayor of New York City. Good luck in the next phase of elections,” Kadaga said in a post on X at the end of July.

Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2014 features a variety of punishments for homosexual behavior, including seven years in prison for a variety of acts. A more recent expansion on the law includes the death penalty.
“Ugandans want that law as a Christmas gift. They have asked for it, and we’ll give them that gift,” Kadaga told Reuters in 2012, prior to the passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.
However, Mamdani has strongly advocated for LGBTQ issues.
One X user pointed out Mamdani appeared at a “Gays for Zohran” event, posing with two drag queens. According to one source, Mamdani joined the event for National Coming Out Day on October 11.
“Zohran Mamdani ran into the First Deputy Minister while he was at Entebbe airport waiting to board his flight back to New York City. She asked to take a photo,” Mamdani campaign spokesperson Dora Pekec told the Post about the photo with Kadaga.
“If he was aware she was the architect of this horrific attack on queer Ugandans, he would not have done so,” Pekec continued. “Zohran’s belief in universal human rights extends to all people, and he has put forward the most comprehensive plan of any candidate to protect LGBTQ+ New Yorkers.”
In July, Zohran Mamdani posted a video on X announcing that he would be heading to Uganda to celebrate his marriage to wife Rama Duwaji with family and friends. The video mocks the “thousands of messages” telling him to “go back to Africa.”
In late June, Kadaga extended her congratulations and greetings from Uganda after he won the Democratic nomination in the mayoral race.
Blaze News reached out to Zohran Mamdani’s campaign for comment but did not receive a response.

Bari weiss takes over cbs Blaze Media Hakeem Jeffries Libs melt down on social media Margaret brennan Politics
Furious liberals blame Bari Weiss takeover at CBS after Democrat leader fumbles tough question on ‘Face the Nation’

A less-than-impressive interview performance from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on “Face the Nation” led many on the left to melt down on social media.
Host Margaret Brennan forced Jeffries to answer a question about the hypocritical framing of rigged elections and redistricting in the midterm elections. Many believed Brennan had been ordered to be tougher on Democrats in the wake of Free Press founder Bari Weiss being hired to lead CBS News.
‘How do you justify using that now? Doesn’t that undermine faith for voters you need to show up?’
“You said, ‘Democrats, there are no election deniers on our side of the aisle,'” Brennan said Sunday.
“You said that back in January. But recently, you’ve been using the term ‘rigged elections’ in reference to the upcoming midterms,” she added. “Democrats were appalled when President Trump used language like that. How do you justify using that now? Doesn’t that undermine faith for voters you need to show up?”
“No, I’ve been using that term in the context of Donald Trump’s unprecedented effort to gerrymander congressional maps in a partisan fashion all across the country in order to rig the midterm elections and deny the ability of the American people to actually decide who should be in the majority as it relates to the House of Representatives,” Jeffries responded.
Brennan interrupted and contradicted Jeffries.
“You know Democrats are also going through gerrymandering and redistricting,” she said.
“No, no, no,” Jeffries responded. “Democrats are going to push back aggressively to make sure that we have fair maps across the country, not partisan gerrymandering, which Republicans have initiated in state after state after state.”
While the episode merely represented a small burst of fair-minded journalism on Brennan’s part, many on the left fell into hysteria and panic over the unexpected blow.
“Really shameful from @margbrennan,” Keith Olbermann replied. “Never talked like that to any MAGA liars she‘s platformed but happy to do it to Jeffries in an attempt to get Bari Weiss to NOT fire her. Just vacuous and amoral.”
“Scary. After Bari Weiss’s takeover of CBS, Margaret Brennan sounds like a Newsmax host in this interview with Hakeem Jeffries,” attorney Kaivan Shroff responded.
“Margaret Brennan’s hostility toward Jeffries compared to her deference toward Bessent and Graham demonstrates the chilling authoritarian takeover of CBS,” one response reads.
“Totally inappropriate Margaret. There was no reason to speak like that to Jeffries,” another detractor said. “I guess we know where you got your orders from. I was hoping changes would not happen under Bari. I guess I was wrong. Sorry but I will no longer be watching you or this show.”
The entire Jeffries interview can be viewed on the show’s YouTube channel.

Comer to UN: Hand Over Documents on Terrorist Employees
![]()
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Monday formally petitioned the United Nations to hand over a tranche of internal documents related to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency’s (UNRWA) employment of more than a dozen terrorists who participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, according to a copy of the letter obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (R., Tenn.) said his investigation will detail how “U.S. taxpayer funds sent to UNRWA have been linked to terrorism.”
