It’s MLK day. I cannot think of a more moving bit of oratory than his “I Have A Dream” speech. Some of Churchill in the war comes up to that level, but nothing exceeds it that I have ever encountered. His dream called all of us to be people of good character (“not judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character,”) but alas this nation has fallen well, well short of the mark Dr. King set for us. Making a mockery Dr. King’s assassination and this day grievously sad. Prime example – Tim Walz.
What is happening in Minnesota is horrible. Consider the meta-narrative. Tim Walz was in deep political kimchi, having announced he would not seek reelection due to the massive fraud scandal that occurred on his watch, recently revealed. When along came a singularly unfortunate event, the death of Renee Good. Walz immediately responded by “declaring war” on the federal government. Joined by the Minneapolis Mayor, I assumed this a political stunt that would soon be revealed for what it was. But alas, this event has grown into ugly levels of civil unrest in Minneapolis and no one is talking about the fraud scandal anymore. Walz has won the meta-narrative battle. I have no doubt the fraud investigation will continue and those that require prosecution will be prosecuted, but the public scandal is now drowned in a sea of blood and protest.
How Good’s unfortunate and tragic, yet justified, shooting remains controversial defies reason, unless you account for media being complicit with Walz. There are two pieces of evidence that demonstrate unequivocally the officer’s justification in using his weapon. One is the fact that he suffered injury. The other is the video taken from his perspective. Neither of these stories got the sort of widespread coverage initial reports of the incident did and in the latter case it was near impossible for me to find the footage when it wasn’t talked over by anchors or reporters and edited to spin it.
All of this is happening because of a misguided notion of Dr. King’s dream. The fraud in Minnesota was conducted by people of very poor character, regardless of the color of their skin. People cried racism, but that is not what was at play. The crime was real and the fact that it was being committed by a group of people with racial ties was irrelevant to the crime itself. Their race may be what bound them together, but they were not being pursued based on race, they were being pursued based on criminal activity. Their character was bad and judgement was due.
And let us not forget that Walz initially came to national prominence as the running mate to Kamala Harris, the first woman of color to seek the highest office in the land. Her candidacy was supposed to be a triumph over racism and sexism. And yet, there is a big “but…”
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was asked if he was a “double agent for Israel” as part of a vetting process to be former US vice president Kamala Harris’s running mate, the New York Times reported on Sunday, citing an advance copy of Shapiro’s new memoir.
Shapiro wrote that Harris’s team asked him extensively about Israel, leaving him “wondering whether these questions were being posed to just me, the only Jewish guy in the running, or if everyone who had not held a federal office was being grilled about Israel in the same way.”
When Shapiro complained about the offensive nature of the double agent question, he was told, “Well, we have to ask,” Shapiro wrote, which “said a lot about some of the people around the VP.”
I need a shower right now. A campaign that was supposed to represent the defeat of discrimination was highly discriminatory – the oldest prejudice know to mankind. Dr. King’s dream is not just dead – the Democrats appear to be spitting on it. If Walz knew these questions were being asked and accepted the nomination he is implicated in the discrimination just as readily as the Harris people.
Dr. King’s dream was not just about the absence of racial considerations when judging people. It was also about those people being of good character. Democrats and a good bit of legacy media only got half the idea.
