Nickname Earned! – Gov. Gavin Newscum
I have generally eshued the nickname for California’s ineffective, self-righteous and odious governor that appears in the headline here. It just strikes me as below the belt. He is a lot of things, most notably inept and hypocritical (The French Laundry incident during covid is simply heinous,) but “scum” must be reserved for those that have truly earned it – those that purposefully and with malice aforethought act in an awful and unacceptable manner. Well, yesterday news broke in which Gavin Newsom crossed that line.
We’ll start with the plausibly deniable news. His former Chief of State was indicted on criminal charges. If Newsom did not know what this woman was up to, then he is unfit for the job – A C.O.S. operates with near as much power as the elected executive. If there is a single decision the elected executive has to make to keep his/her nose clean it is that hire. Oops. But more likely he knew exactly what was going on (laundering campaign funds to line personal pockets) and this poor soul is his sacrificial lamb. In other words he is leaving a loyal supporter swinging in the wind to save his own political hide. Yeah, that’s scummy.
Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when I scolded California for its grossly misplaced social/moral priorities? Well, that plot has gotten a lot thicker. At the time, California was quite proud of taking care of its citizens with peanut allergies while the gross massacres of people, especially Christians, was happening in Sudan and Nigeria. At least people with peanut allergies have an immediate and acute problem.
Two days ago, Newsom sat with a leader from Nigeria. Did he discuss the genocide in that nation’s borders? Did he call for action to stem the tide? Did he give a tinker’s d&^% about the entire villages that were being slaughtered wholesale? Of course not. He did a climate deal. So, just to be clear, this man that wants to be president was more concerned about climate change – a problem that may or may not be significant decades from now – than he was about the slaughter of hundreds, even thousands, of souls in the country of Nigeria. That is beyond scummy – it is downright inhumane. (Further commentary from David Strom at HotAir.)
There is no excuse here, none. It would require ineptitude of gargantuan, if not impossible, proportions on the part of himself and his staff for him to be unaware of what is happening in Nigeria. He had to choose…decide…elect with purpose and forethought to ignore this genocide so that he could trumpet his climate change achievements to burnish his presidential aspirations. I do not think there is a shower long enough or a soap strong enough to wash this scum off me, and all I have done is read about it!
This man leads early Democratic presidential polling for 2028. Which means the scum spreads much wider than just him. God save us.
