Obama Campaigns With Scandal-Plagued Virginia Dem Who Fantasized About Murdering Opponents
Former President Barack Obama hit the campaign trail in Virginia on Saturday, speaking on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger and standing on the same stage as scandal-plagued attorney general nominee Jay Jones.
With the general elections just three days away, Obama stumped alongside Jones — who made headlines over resurfaced texts in which he advocated for the assassination of then-state House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, and suggested that he and his wife should have to watch one of their young children die.
Obama spoke largely on Spanberger’s behalf, claiming that she would faithfully represent all of Virginia and arguing that she would engage in civil discourse without name-calling or demonization.

“And Abigail doesn’t just believe in working with everybody, she also believes — and this is really important — in listening to everybody, whether they voted for her or not,” he said. “Because she knows that if we want to make progress on the things that we care about, we have to be able to disagree without calling each other nasty names or demonizing each other.”

“So at a time when our politics feels broken, we need desperately leaders like Abigail, public servants who are in it for the right reasons and are focused on the future,” he continued.
Obama did not mention the fact that Spanberger, despite condemning Jones’ texts early on, had stopped short of saying that his comments should bar him from holding office. He also did not mention Jones’ obvious contribution to that feeling of brokenness in political discourse.
Spanberger herself raised some of the same points as the former president, speaking about how she was ready and willing to work with everyone: “As Governor, I will work with anyone and everyone to get the job done for Virginians.”

Neither she nor Obama mentioned a recent interview in which she’d flat-out declared she would not work with President Trump to help create jobs in Virginia.
